Oh Boy! First Trailer for Coen Brothers’ Revenge Western “True Grit” [Video]

27 Sep 2010

The Coen Brothers can do no wrong. They last rode into Western film territory with their lean adaptation of No Country for Old Men, and look how swell that turned out. From Roger Deakins‘ powerful cinematography to the glimpsed performances of Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and promising newcomer Hailee Steinfeld, it looks like the Coens are back for round two.

Video after the break.

The film is an adaptation of a 1968 novel by Charles Portis, and was first adapted in 1969 starring John Wayne and Glen Campbell. The synopsis reads as follows:

Fourteen-year-old Mattie Ross’s (Hailee Steinfeld) father has been shot in cold blood by the coward Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), and she is determined to bring him to justice. Enlisting the help of a trigger-happy, drunken U.S. Marshal, Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), she sets out with him — over his objections — to hunt down Chaney. Her father’s blood demands that she pursue the criminal into Indian territory and find him before a Texas Ranger named LeBoeuf (Matt Damon) catches him and brings him back to Texas for the murder of another man.
