Japanese Artist Conceives of “Menstruation Machine” Concept [Video]

12 Aug 2010

Thankfully it’s still merely a concept, or else vindictive girlfriends and wives around the world would be strapping this behemoth to us indifferent male pigs. Conceived by Japanese artist Hiromi Ozaki, the Menstruation Machine is part of the Design Interactions exhibit at the Royal College of Art in London.

The contraption consists of a “blood dispensing mechanism and lower-abdomen-stimulating electrodes which simulates the pain and bleeding of an average 5 day menstruation process,” and is presented via equally kooky (but catchy!) electronica music video titled “Takashi’s Take.” According to Ozaki, the video concerns “a boy…who builds the machine in an attempt to dress up as a female, biologically as well as aesthetically, to fulfill his desire to understand what it might feel like to be a truely kawaii (cute) girl. He determinedly wears the machine to hang out with his kawaii friend in Tokyo, but…”

Say no more; watch the video after the break.

Now if only we could invent a machine that could attach prosthetic testicles to women and teach them that indescribable pain of a thousand years: the kick to the groin.
