VOTD: B.J. Novak Opens Webby Awards, Taunts A Whole Generation

17 Jun 2010

Inglourious Basterds and The Office star B.J. Novak gave the opening monologue to the 2010 Webby Awards earlier this week, and was spot on in his hilarious commentary on Pandora, Apple, Google, Internet activism, Facebook privacy, Twitter search, and the Kendra Wilkinson sex tape, among other things.

The Webby Awards are perhaps most well known for their uber-succinct acceptance speeches (five words). Some good examples:

  • Roger Ebert (Webby Person of the Year): “Veni, vidi, vici.” (“I came, I saw, I conquered.”)
  • Zach Galifianakis (Best Actor): “How am I on time?”
  • Isabella Rosselini (Webby for Best Individual Performance in the Sundance Channel’s “Green Porno”): “I say, plug the hole.”
  • Jake & Amir of CollegeHumor.com (Webby for Best Comedy Series – People’s Voice): “Holy fucking shit, Buzz Aldrin!” (Buzz Aldrin was in attendance.)
  • OutCast Communications representatives, on behalf of Flickr: “Pics or it didn’t happen.”

Ch-ch-check out the video of the opening monologue below:
