Artist Highlight: Shing Yan Lau (AKA Guts80)

13 Apr 2010

About time I shine that proverbial limelight on my fellow Hong Kong International School alumni and childhood friend Shing Yan Lau. He wears glasses that turn an adorable shade of purple when exposed to light – he can withstand the celebrity this posting will bring him, I’m sure.

An economics major and photography minor at Carnegie Mellon University, Shing has been snapping avidly since 2004. His images often are concerned with people in opposition to their environments – often shocking juxtapositions that are visually magnetic and filled with melancholy. I love the sense of voyeurism in his pictures. He never sacrifices the technical strength of his photos, either.

Check out more of Shing’s work at his DeviantArt and photo blog!

Hey, it’s not creepy if it’s pretty…I think. Shing? Anything to say?
