I Hear Tidings of… Chris Evans as Captain America, Health Care Reform and Philosophy as the Way to Happiness!

Daily Talk Around the World

CAP AMERICA: Marvel has offered Chris Evans the coveted role of the Captain, which has provoked some outcry among comic fans due to the actor’s previous involvement in the horrible Fantastic Four. Though, to be fair, he was good in Sunshine. Like Sam Jackson, Evans would be contracted to nine potential films – a hefty investment.

HEALTH CARE: On the eve of the health care vote, President quotes Lincoln’s words to the House: “I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have.” Lincoln’s words are good and so is the health care reform. But just to be clear, let’s be glad Bush didn’t use similar language when justifying the invasion of Ir — oh, oops. In response Tea Partiers displayed their true, disgusting colors at the Capitol protest, calling civil rights leader Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga) a “ni**er” and Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass) a “fa**ot.”

HAPPINESS: The journal Psychological Science identified in a study that happiness and “substantive conversations” are correlated. Public philosopherTom Morris, who spent three months of his freshly post-graduate life working for an evangelistic group at a South Carolina beach in 1971, writes about how life is much like ABC’s television show Lost, us being unwittingly dropped onto the island of existence.

Read on for: zombie games, the failing manga industry, Sandra Bullock’s Neo-Nazi marriage killer, Star Trek-referencing  protesters in Thailand, Chinese tweeting and the Walmart arrest.

  • LEFT 4 DEAD: For fans of the most exciting and realistic zombie shooter (A. there’s millions of them, and B. a lot of the time your best weapon may only be a baseball bat) series Left 4 Dead, prepare to be saddened by the new established canon. Kotaku reports that while the four original survivors of L4D will be showing up at the beginning of L4D 2’s downloadable episode “The Passing,” only three of them will make it to the end, justifying the game’s new tagline: Nobody Survives Forever.
  • MANGA: According to Anime Vice, reports in the manga industry have indicated that Japan sales are dropping and North American publishers are scaling back the number of manga releases. The U.S. has already seen this trend in which many of the comic titles move into the domain of movies. It’s sad, as the medium of comics is able to achieve things that cinema can’t. More on this later.

  • SANDRA BULLOCK: Is not happy. TMZ is reporting that her husband’s mistress Michelle Bombshell enthusiastically participated in a Nazi photoshoot a year ago, with Heil Hitler salute, swastikas and all. Please enlighten me as to why Jesse James would choose this walking vandalized wall over Bullock.
  • THAILAND: 65 to 90,000 supporters of ousted ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra took to the streets of Bangkok to protest the current state of aristocratic and government rule. Ironically, all were garbed in their uniform of “red shirts,” which, as any superstitious Star Trek fan will tell you, is a bad move.

  • TWITTER: Though the site continues to be banned in China, the use of micro-blog alternatives which have sprung up in its place has increased in number, evidence of social media’s growing importance for breaking news events in the PRC.
  • WALMART: A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in southern New Jersey in connection to the incident at the Walmart store in Washington Township last Sunday, in which he picked up a courtesy phone and announced: “Attention, Walmart customers: All black people, leave the store now.” Have fun learning that being racist pays, kid — especially in juvie.

Um, where is the EVIDENCE of the tea partiers saying these things to the Congressmen? Where is the evidence? None. Stupak’s recordings of people threatening him were pre healthcare vote and hence pro obama types. We do have recordings of people threatening republicans like congresspersons cantor and schmidt. We do have recordings of lefties beating up tea partiers. Yet, the media and obama kool aid drinkers make claims and have no actual evidence. Hmmm….and your photoshopped image of Cap is disgusting.
